Clinical nutrition and therapeutic dietary planning are integral components of inpatient recovery, surgical healing, and critical care management. The Department of Dietetics at AIIMS prepares and dispenses thousands of specialized clinical diets daily, including total enteral nutrition feeds, renal diets, diabetic meals, and metabolic pediatric formulations.
The Chief Dietician heads the entire clinical dietetics hierarchy across all hospital centers, including the Main Hospital, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, Rotary Cancer Hospital, and Cardio-Thoracic Centre. The post demands seasoned leadership to coordinate nutritional research, manage hospital kitchen hygiene, and train post-graduate dietetic interns.

Candidates must possess a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or Food Science from a recognized university or institute approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Applicants must possess a minimum of ten years of practical professional experience as a Dietician in a large teaching hospital of at least 500-bed capacity, including demonstrable managerial and administrative experience overseeing departmental personnel and therapeutic kitchen operations.
Applications are invited from officers holding analogous posts on regular basis under Central/State Governments, Union Territories, Statutory Bodies, Autonomous Research Institutions, or Public Sector Undertakings:
1. Officers holding analogous posts of Chief Dietician or Senior Dietician in Pay Level 11; OR
2. Senior Dieticians with five years of regular service in the grade of Pay Level 10 (pre-revised PB-3 with Grade Pay Rs. 5,400) in the parent department.
Internal Senior Dieticians of AIIMS New Delhi possessing five years of regular service in the feeding grade will also be considered along with external deputation applicants.
The maximum age limit for appointment on deputation must not exceed 56 years as on the closing date of application receipt, 30 November 2026.
Candidates must possess an unblemished professional career. Sponsoring cadre controlling authorities must certify that no vigilance or disciplinary case is pending or contemplated, and attach certified photocopies of APAR dossiers for the last five consecutive years.
The post of Chief Dietician carries Pay Level 11 in the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix, with a base pay scale ranging from Rs. 67,700 to Rs. 2,08,700 per month (pre-revised Pay Band-3 Rs. 15,600-39,100 with Grade Pay Rs. 6,600).
Deputation officers may opt for Pay Level 11 of the deputation post or retain their parent cadre pay plus admissible Deputation (Duty) Allowance in terms of DoPT orders.
The compensation package includes central Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) or government residential quarters at AIIMS residential colonies in New Delhi, medical facilities under the AIIMS scheme, and children education allowances.
1. Formulating clinical nutritional policies, clinical nutrition therapy protocols, and specialized feeding regimens for ICU, neonatal, renal, and oncology inpatients.
2. Directing dietary operations, dry food ration procurement, central kitchen cooking processes, food microbiological quality checks, and temperature-controlled food trolley distribution.
3. Conducting daily nutritional rounds with medical faculty in intensive care units and pediatric specialty wards to optimize patient enteral feeding.
4. Managing dietary counseling clinics for outpatients suffering from diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, chronic kidney disease, and gastrointestinal syndromes.
5. Organizing clinical nutrition workshops, supervising postgraduate dietetic internships, and leading nutritional clinical research trials.
Selection will be conducted through evaluation of application dossiers and a personal interaction before the Standing Selection Committee of AIIMS New Delhi.
The committee examines the candidate's clinical experience in tertiary care hospitals, leadership over hospital dietetic operations, published nutritional research, and annual appraisal gradings.
The parent department must certify that in the event of selection, the officer will be relieved immediately to assume charge at AIIMS New Delhi.
