Office of the District and Sessions Judge Begusarai has invited applications for 3 posts of Stenographer, Clerk, and Peon for Evening Courts. Eligible retired judicial employees under 65 years can submit applications by 05 December 2026.
Begusarai Judgeship functions under the administrative jurisdiction of the High Court of Judicature at Patna. The district judiciary handles criminal, civil, family, and commercial litigations originating across Begusarai, Teghra, Bakhri, Ballia, and Manjhaul sub-divisions in northern Bihar.
To expedite the disposal of petty criminal matters, traffic challans, municipal cases, and check bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, the Government of Bihar and Patna High Court established Special Evening Courts. These courts operate after standard working hours to clear accumulated caseloads without disrupting regular morning trial benches.
Operationalizing Evening Courts requires trained court staff capable of handling case dockets, recording evidence, typing orders, and serving bench notices without undergoing extensive judicial training. The District Judge has therefore approved contractual re-employment of retired judicial personnel with impeccable past records.
This engagement provides retired court officials a dignified platform to contribute their procedural expertise toward the reduction of case backlogs while drawing monthly honoraria.
Under official recruitment notification dated 07 November 2026 issued by the Administration Section of Begusarai District Court, 3 posts are open for contractual appointment in the Evening Courts:
1. Stenographer (Aashulipik): 1 vacancy to provide stenographic assistance to the presiding judicial officer during evening court proceedings.
2. Clerk (Lipik): 1 vacancy to maintain case registries, issue process summons, update daily cause lists, and prepare judicial orders.
3. Peon / Orderly (Aadeshpal): 1 vacancy to announce litigant names outside the courtroom, transmit records from the record room, and attend to bench protocols.
The appointment is purely temporary and contractual, initially for a term of one year, subject to extension based on satisfactory service and continuation of the Evening Court scheme by the state government.
| Cadre & Post | Vacancies | Honorarium Rule | Key Role in Evening Court |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stenographer (Aashulipik) | 01 Post | As per Bihar State Evening Court Norms | Taking dictation and typing daily courtroom orders |
| Clerk (Lipik) | 01 Post | As per Bihar State Evening Court Norms | Maintaining civil case registers and cause lists |
| Peon / Orderly (Aadeshpal) | 01 Post | As per Bihar State Evening Court Norms | Calling cases and managing bench file transit |
| Total Positions | 03 Posts | Contractual Honorarium Re-employment | Evening Courts, Begusarai Judgeship |

Remuneration is determined in accordance with the rules framed by the Government of Bihar for retired personnel appointed in Evening Courts.
The monthly honorarium is disbursed through the district treasury upon monthly certification of satisfactory attendance and performance by the presiding judge of the Evening Court.
